PTA bylaws provide the foundation for effective governance, responsible leadership, and successful operation of every local unit. South Carolina PTA offers guidance and resources to help PTAs understand, review, and maintain bylaws that support their mission and responsibilities.
This is the 2025 version of Local Unit Bylaws. These are the only approved Bylaws for South Carolina PTA Units to adopt. Once adopted, you will not have to renew them unless SCPTA updates them. If you are unsure whether your unit has adopted the newest version, reach out to your District President. For steps to conduct a Bylaws vote, view below.
Although you no longer have to renew your Bylaws once the 2025 version has been adopted, you do have to submit a Bylaws Distribution Form each year. Make sure each Board Member has a copy of the Bylaws, then have the President or Secretary sign and upload the form to Givebacks by October 1.
Following the proper process for adopting or amending bylaws ensures every member has a voice and that changes are made fairly, transparently, and in accordance with PTA requirements. Proper procedures help protect the integrity of your association and the validity of your bylaws.
